Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Injury Update

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Injury Update

The Barcelona game left marks that are deeper than expected. Wenger has a lot of work to do in order to recover the players after a very unlucky night that not only ended in a loss but also ended with Oxlade-Chamberlain limping out after a clash with Mascherano. Even if the England international was still on the pitch minutes after the hit he took, it seems that his injury is a lot worse. According to the Daily Star, the 22-year-old could be out for the rest of the season, including Euro 2016 which could turn into a massive disappointment. If first impressions are true, Oxlade-Chamberlain has injured both his knee and ankle.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain injury history:

2012-2013 – Hip injury – unavailable for 20 days

2013-2014 – Knee injury + Groin Injury – unavailable for a total of 216 days

2014-2015 – Groin Injury + Hamstring injury – unavailable for 117 days

2015-2016 – Thigh muscle rupture – unavailable for 25 days

It`s incredible how many injuries the player picked up in 3 years. Fortunately, he is just 22 which will give his body the necessary energy to recover from injuries like the one picked up against Barcelona. The biggest concern for him right now is that he will lose contact with Arsenal’s lot and also with the national team. Despite not being a team regular, he did represent the best choice for the right wing during those moments when Bellerin needed help with the defense. Using Walcott on the right can be tough especially against teams like Barcelona. Campbell is also a solution but he is still not on the same level as Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Arsenal face Manchester United on Sunday and it is unlikely we will see Oxlade-Chamberlain on the match list. If through some miracle, he can be recovered, he should still be left out of the starting eleven as it would be complicated for Wenger to handle the rest of the season without the England international. Best case scenario, the scan shows some bruising that will disappear before late March when the Premier League title will probably be decided.
