Aleksandar Dragovic May Be A Great Replacement For Vermaelen

With the football season quickly coming to an end, several transfer rumors have emerged regarding youngsters who have had a great year. Arsenal, who will have an impressive transfer budget for the summer, are most often linked to Europe’s best. Wenger is known for reaching out to players who have not yet reached their professional maturity. The Frenchman has a long list of transfers in which he is ready to invest and it seems that he keeps adding names to consider every week. The Gunners will be looking to strengthen all their departments but will probably emphasize defensive and offensive players. They currently have issues with their defenders, who have been out with injury and have also given some inconsistent performances.

According to Metro, Arsenal’s most recent target comes from Switzerland. Basel have always provided Europe with some really interesting footballers. The Gunners are now looking to sign 22 year old Aleksandar Dragovic, who has had an excellent season so far. Wenger’s scouts have been monitoring Basel’s defender in both matches against Tottenham and decided he is definitely worth looking into. The Frenchman is not the only one interested in securing Dragovic’s signature. According to Georg Heitz, who is Basel’s current sporting director, several other big teams are ready to engage in the bidding process. It looks like teams such as Dortmund and Milan are keen on landing Dragovic too.

It is not a certainty yet, but it seems that Arsenal have the best chance of signing Basel’s 22 year old defender. Wenger is not in a hurry and has not yet made a bid for any player. He will probably wait until the end of the season to start the transfer campaign.

Aleksandar Dragovic is now valued at £6million and looks like an excellent investment. Even though Arsenal will have an impressive transfer budget for his summer, Basel’s player could easily be brought in considering Vermaelen and Djourou will most likely leave Emirates Stadium. Their salaries would be more than enough to cover a big part of all expenses that come with bringing in a new player like Dragovic.
