Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has said that the Gunners need to sell Gabriel Jesus this January to generate some cash.
The Gunners are coming out of the international break with a tough game against Fulham on Saturday afternoon. Mikel Arteta‘s side are on top of the Premier League table, one point ahead of Liverpool, who have lost their last three matches.
Arsenal will likely start the game with Viktor Gyokeres up front, but the Swedish international hasn’t scored in his last five matches for the Gunners. He will be hoping to break his duck this weekend.
If his poor form continues, Kai Havertz will be a threat to his striker role when he returns from injury next month. He isn’t the only injured striker Arsenal have either, as Gabriel Jesus has also been out since January with an ACL problem.
Smith says Arsenal should sell Gabriel Jesus
Former Gunner Alan Smith spoke to GoonerNews via BestBettingSites.co.uk, and said that even though Jesus is a “dangerous” striker, Arsenal should sell him in the January transfer window.
He said: “If Havertz and Gyökeres stay fit, I don’t think Jesus has much chance at all. I would imagine Arsenal would be trying to get some money for him. He’s just a bit below the standard you want at Arsenal. He came back from injury last season and scored a little flurry of goals.
“So he can be a dangerous player, but I don’t think he would want to sit third in the pecking order, and Arsenal have spent a lot of money, so it might be that they do need to generate some cash in terms of PSR and all that, so it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see him go out the door.”
Reports are suggesting an exit for Jesus
Amid Smith’s claims of an exit for the Brazilian striker, the reports coming out of the Brazilian media are backing his theory. It has been reported that Arsenal have told Jesus to leave the club in January, with his current contract set to expire in June 2027.
Palmeiras and Flamengo are understood to be keen on the 28-year-old, but it is said that Jesus wouldn’t want a move to Brazil just yet, and a move within Europe is more likely for him.
Since joining Arsenal in 2022, the former Man City striker has made 96 appearances under Arteta, scoring 26 goals, and providing 20 assists.
