Ex-Arsenal Striker Alan Smith Expresses Concern Over Gunners’ Strikers Including Gabriel Jesus

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has said he has concerns over Arsenal’s attacking options with just Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz up front.

The Gunners failed to add a striker in the summer transfer window and with the departure of Eddie Nketiah to Crystal Palace, Mikel Arteta’s side have just two strikers.

Alan Smith told CasinoApps.com that he worries over the Gunners’ squad depth. He said: “I do think the Gunners are a bit light through the middle in the striker position. Gabriel Jesus keeps on picking up injuries, he’s out at the moment, and we don’t know how close he is to fitness.

“In an ideal world, Arteta would have brought somebody in, but the striker he wanted wasn’t available. That is the one part of the Arsenal team where you worry about depth. I have my fingers crossed that Havertz doesn’t get injured.”

Kai Havertz leading the Gunners’ attack

In their opening three games, German international Kai Havertz has started up front for the Gunners impressing so far for Mikel Arteta’s side.

The 25-year-old has two goals and one assist so far, impressive numbers for someone that is not considered to be an out-and-out striker. After his hot start, Havertz has proven that he can be Arsenal’s first-choice striker.

However, as Alan Smith alluded to, if Havertz were to suffer an injury, Mikel Arteta would struggle for options especially considering Gabriel Jesus’ recent history of injury problems.

Arsenal failed to sign a striker

The Gunners were keen on bringing in a striker over the summer but failed to despite being linked with several world-class goalscorers.

There was reported interest in Victor Osimhen who recently made a loan move from Napoli to Galatasaray, Ivan Toney who has moved to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, and Viktor Gyokeres at Sporting CP.

Only time will tell as to whether Arsenal’s failure to sign a striker will cause an issue in their title fight with Manchester City and Liverpool.
