‘Aggression’ the key to winning North London derby says Arsenal defender

Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac says ‘aggression’ was the key to his side’s victory over Tottenham earlier in the season, and has backed the Gunners to do the double over their North London rivals when they meet this weekend.

Arsene Wenger’s side travel to Wembley on Saturday afternoon knowing a win will take them to within two points of Spurs, and the Frenchman will be hoping for a repeat of when the two sides last met – a 2-0 victory for the Gunners.

And Kolasinac, who starred in the victory in mid-November last year, says his side must take a similar approach this time around if they are to better Maurcio Pochettino’s men again.

“I think we approached the derby the way you need to. We were aggressive without the ball and calm with it. We scored our first through a set-piece, which was decisive.” said the Bosnian.

“Once we were in front, it was clear that Tottenham needed to push more and we had the quality to score the second.

“We did that in the first half and then in the second half, we defended really well and didn’t concede. That was decisive.”

The former Schalke defender however, knows the importance of the fixture and it’s significance, and says his first North London derby experience was one to remember.

“You notice the tension before the game,” said Sead, “When you come out onto the pitch, you realise that the fans are fully there.

“It’s a very special game for the club and it was a special one for me, because it was my first one with Arsenal. I’m pleased that we won it and I hope further victories will follow.”
