The agent of Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil says his client is happy at the Emirates, but he cannot guarantee the German will stay beyond the end of his contract.

The 31-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of next season and speaking out about the midfielder’s future, Dr Erkut Sogut said:

“You never know in football. First of all, you can never predict the movement of players. I have said it before and I am saying it again that he [Ozil] is really happy where he is at Arsenal.”

“He is still has a contract to go and there is no change. We will see what the future holds when the contract ends but for now, there is nothing I can say.”

It’s highly unlikely that Arsenal will look to offer Ozil a new contract anyway, considering he is reportedly earning over £300,000 a week.

His performances have certainly not merited a renewal either with just one goal and three assists in 23 appearances this season. While he appears to have the trust of head coach Mikel Arteta, the Gunners’ board may have a different opinion.

It’s likely that Arsenal would prefer to offload Ozil this summer instead of the player running down his contract but from Sogut’s comments, it does appear the midfielder will dig his heels in and look to remain at the Emirates.
