Agent Claims Brazilian Midfield Maestro Is Targeting Summer Move, After Being “Close” To Joining Arsenal In January

The agent of Juventus midfielder Arthur has confirmed that the player is expected to leave the Serie A club at the end of the season.

Arsenal were heavily linked with the 25-year-old during the January transfer window and Federico Pastorello says that the Gunners did try to sign him:

“In January, he was close to Arsenal. He is too important a player to be marginalised. He must also think about the national team.”

Pastorello believes that Arthur is not getting the game he needs under manager Max Allegri and he expects a move will happen over the summer:

“With (former Juve boss Maurizio) Sarri he would have played (the) Jorginho (role). But while Allegri likes him, he wants two physical midfielders. It is not in anyone’s interest to continue in this situation.”

It is not believed that Arsenal are as interested in signing the Brazilian international as they once were. Most reports suggest that the London club are focused on signing either Leicester’s Youri Tielemans or Wolves’ Ruben Neves.

Both players are likely to be more difficult to capture than Arthur, due to the interest from other clubs, so we shall have to wait and see whether the Gunners do revive a potential move for the midfielder in the coming months.
