Adams: Arsenal won’t win the league under Wenger

Arsenal legend Tony Adams says the Gunners will not win the league whilst being managed by Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners are 15 points off league leaders Manchester City, and most recently lost 3-1 to rivals Manchester United.

Wenger last won the league 14 years ago, and many have been calling for the Frenchman’s head as manager for some time.

Adams believes his former side will not lift the league title again until Wenger has gone, but admits he would not be surprised if he extends his stay at the Emirates.

Asked whether his former club could win the league under the current manager, Adams told Goals on Sunday: “He’s contracted for another 18 months, so you’re asking me whether this squad can do it. I don’t think they can, I think that’s pretty obvious.

“But how long will he go on for now? How old is he 67? He’s already said retirement is death to him, so you can’t see him retiring and there doesn’t seem to be anything outside of the game for him.

“It wouldn’t be beyond me to see him sign another extension for another couple of years as well.”

Wenger will always be regarded as an Arsenal legend, but perhaps at the end of the season it will be time to call it a day.
