Aaron Ramsey slams team-mate for “silly mistake” in Carabao Cup final

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has slammed his team-mate Shkodran Mustafi for his “silly mistake” during the Carabao Cup final.

The Germany international gifted Manchester City the opener after he failed to pick up striker Sergio Aguero from goalkeeper Claudio Bravo’s goal kick.

Mustafi was out-powered by Aguero, however instead of chasing the Argentine back, the German instead chose to run to referee Craig Pawson to question his decision not to give a foul.

Pawson let play continue, and Sergio Aguero subsequently ran through on-goal before producing an exquisite lob over Petr Cech to open the scoring on the day.

City then ran-out 3-0 winners thanks to further goals from Vincent Kompany and David Silva, but Ramsey says Mustafi’s mistake early on cost the Gunners dearly.

“Obviously we’re all very disappointed, said Ramsey, “We wanted to try and win the game but we made a silly mistake which led to the first goal and that was disappointing.

“It’s always difficult when they take the lead and they’re such a quality team. They deserved the win today.

“I think Man City are a quality team and, like I said, they’ve opened up many teams this year. They did it on occasions to us today and they punished us every time.
“We’re disappointed. This is not how we wanted it to go.”
