‘I Would Be Concerned’ Arsenal Legend Speaks On Gunners’ Goalkeeper Situation

Arsenal icon David Seaman has said that he is ‘worried’ for Aaron Ramsdale’s position in the Gunners’ senior squad.

In their recent run of games, head coach Mikel Arteta has seemingly preferred his contemporary, David Raya, as opposed to the former Sheffield United shot-stopper.

As such, Seaman noted that it has been a ‘long time’ since Ramsdale started a game in the Premier League for Arsenal. Nevertheless, he added that ‘the fans still love him’.

Would David Seaman be worried if Aaron Ramsdale does not start in Arsenal’s next game?

On whether he would be surprised or concerned if Ramsdale was not selected following the international break, Seaman said on his podcast: “A little bit, yeah, both.

“I would be concerned because then Aaron [Ramsdale] isn’t playing and England have a friendly against Australia and then a qualifier against Italy. Big games. I would imagine he might play vs Australia and then [Jordan] Pickford against Italy. But it’s now getting a long time since Aaron has played.

“What I love about the guy is at the end of the game is that he walks round and applauds the fans and he gets a really good reception. You can tell that the fans still love him and know what’s happening but it’s for the good of the team at the moment and that’s all you can say.”

Should Aaron Ramsdale start for Arsenal after the international break?

It is hardly a revolutionary viewpoint, but Mikel Arteta finds himself in a quandary by having two such highly-talented goalkeepers in his squad.

Both are far too talented to be rotting away on the bench – as such, the Spaniard must find a way to give them a satisfactory amount of playing time.

Raya has been on fire since he replaced Ramsdale between the sticks – even if he displayed a few moments of uncertainty against Manchester City at the weekend.

Based on current form, Raya deserves to be in the first team. Ramsdale will have a chance to put forth a positive impression during the international break – but if he does not, there is no reason why he should be starting over the former Brentford man.
