Arsenal defender David Luiz is excited about the potential of Gunners forward Gabriel Martinelli because of the mentality he has shown both on and off the pitch.
The former Chelsea and PSG star has seen many talents come and go over the years, but he has rarely seen a player with such a good attitude as the Brazilian teenager, who he says is focused purely on improving his game:
“He has a great mentality, especially because I know Brazilians at 18 years old. He’s a top guy, a top player, but what makes me more impressed is the mentality in the training ground, the way he reacts after he scores goals.”
“[After] scoring at Anfield, he continues to work, not asking already, ‘I have to play, I have to play’. This is a great mentality. He’s taking his opportunities step-by-step, always with the same focus and determination. He is so mature for his age.”
Considering Martinelli’s superb start to the season, it would be easy to sit back and rest on his laurels, but the 18-year-old is keen to learn and make improvements that will lead to him becoming a better player.
The Brazilian is already performing to a very high level, having bagged seven goals in his first nine appearances for the Gunners.
Martinelli has yet to score in the Premier League but that could change if and when he is given his full league debut by manager Unai Emery over the coming months.
