The Gunners have been crying out for a player like Torreira for many years. His ability to cover ground, and essentially put out fires around the pitch, allows the club’s more creative players to get on doing what they do best.
The 22-year-old took some time to establish himself in the starting line up as manager Unai Emery eased him into life in the Premier League.
However, since the 2-0 win over Everton in September, Torreira has started every Premier League match, making 21 appearances in all competitions so far. It’s looking like the £26m Arsenal shelled out on the Uruguayan international was a bargain.
