Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been trying to convince Luis Suarez to stay at the club and also feels a move to Arsenal would be a mistake for the Uruguayan front man, as the Gunners steadily reach the asking price.

Rodgers is the process of building a strong squad at Anfield, and Suarez has been an integral part of that setup. Along with club skipper Steven Gerrard, the striker has become a cult hero at Merseyside, with the side depending on the striker for majority of their goals. After the departure of Fernando Torres to Chelsea a few seasons ago, the Uruguayan has stamped his authority over the Liverpool attack, and it is fair to say that the attack line will not be the same without Suarez. Even though the striker has been making all the right noises on the pitch and in terms of statistics, Suarez has been involved in various controversies, which have led him to be a soft target for the British media. The striker himself admitted that the flack from the media was reaching his family, and that it he feels it may not be safe for them to stay in England anymore.

However, as the Barclays Premier League has witnessed time-and-time again, situations can change very quickly, especially in terms of transfer sagas. Even though loyalty has a meaning in the eyes of the supporters, the same cannot be said about players, who are constantly in search of silverware, a privilege Suarez has not had in his time at Liverpool. Despite spending on players like Coutinho and Andy Carroll, the club have not been able to break into the top four, a group they were part of under Rafa Benitez’s managerial stint.

Arsenal were first linked to Suarez when reports emerged of a shock £30 million bid by the Gunners. Despite remarks from the striker about his willingness to consider an offer from Real Madrid, Arsenal made a bid which was rejected by the Merseyside club.

According to the Metro, Rodgers is aware of the new £40 million bid by Arsenal, but believes the move would be a mistake for the player.

While in Australia on the pre-season tour, Rodgers said, “Would it be a mistake for Luis to leave Liverpool? Yes, 100 per cent,

“I know what we are trying to build and grow here, so why would you swap Liverpool to go to Arsenal? I am not sure that it adds up to be honest.

“Don’t get me wrong, Arsenal has a wonderful history in its own right, but Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

“But I am sure Luis will have seen the sheer size and status of the club here [in Melbourne], so we’ll just see how it goes.”
