Arsenal put in a poor display against Manchester City last night, and one of the most disappointing aspects of the defeat was the anonymous performance from captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Despite playing the full 90 minutes, the 31-year-old hardly had a kick throughout the game and was unable to hold up the ball to ease the pressure on the Gunners’ defence.
After a bad night against Benfica last week, where he missed a number of chances, supporters on Twitter are beginning to worry about Aubameyang’s poor form again:
I can literally not tell that he is on the pitch

It’s like playing with 10 men when he’s playing like this

Auba just waits till he gets the ball, he should make himself available and ask for it

Auba honestly runs like a headless chicken most of the time. Can’t create anything on his own, need players to directly create chances for him in the box

Auba is useless as a striker in these games. Need Laca or martinelli who press & hold the ball up with some conviction. He’s not even making any runs in behind. Was the exact same against Benfica

Two poor games now. Isn’t offering enough as a striker

Besides finishing, he never impacts games. If he isn't on the scoresheet we might as well have played 10v11.

He can’t hold up the ball like Laca can

Time to admit Laca is a better footballer than auba ?

Order looked to have been restored when Aubameyang scored a hat-trick in the 4-2 win over Leeds just over a week ago but the Gabonese international’s inconsistent finishing and his lack of impact on games has got fans questioning his inclusion in the starting eleven once more.
Manager Mikel Arteta opted not to sub Aubameyang yesterday, despite the player being nowhere near his best, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll be selected for the second leg against Benfica on Thursday.
