Arsenal could lose out on Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey if the Spanish club manage to increase the 26-year-old’s release clause, according to Goal.
The website says the La Liga side are preparing to offer the Ghanaian international a new contract which could see his buyout fee increase to €100m (£91m), and see him earn roughly £80,000 a week or £4.1m a year.
Thomas’s current clause stands at €50m (£46m), with a number of clubs, including Premier League rivals Manchester United, keen to take advantage at the end of the season.
Manager Mikel Arteta is believed to be a fan of the box to box midfielder and would like to bring him to the Emirates as part of his summer recruitment plans.
Atletico’s move to offer Thomas a new deal would likely price the Gunners out of the transfer. It remains to be seen, though, whether the player will sign on the dotted line.
