Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has told Gunners captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to “hold your head up” after the 30-year-old missed a gilt-edged opportunity against Olympiakos last night.
The striker had already scored a spectacular goal in extra time to get his side back level, but after Youssef El Arabi put Olympiakos 2-1 up on the night, Aubameyang still had one chance to win the tie, only to fluff his lines with only the keeper to beat. Morgan took to Twitter after the game to reassure the forward:
Agonising for this guy.
I’d have bet my house he’d score again with that last shot.
But even geniuses are fallible.
Hold your head up Pierre-Emerick @Aubameyang7 – you’re the ONLY reason we aren’t facing relegation this season. ? pic.twitter.com/0WDltJomtv— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) February 27, 2020
It was a very disappointing performance from Mikel Arteta’s side considering they went into the evening with a 1-0 lead from the away leg. Aubameyang can not be blamed considering he was one of the few on the night who made a telling contribution.
The Gunners don’t have a fixture this weekend due to Manchester City playing in the Carabao Cup final but they will be keen to get back to winning ways when they face Portsmouth in the FA Cup on Monday evening.
