Arsenal Identify £27m Rated Ivorian Speedster As Welbeck Replacement

Arsenal will make a January bid for Lille winger Nicolas Pepe in light of Danny Welbeck’s injury, according to the Times.

The newspaper reports that the England international’s broken ankle has forced the club’s hands, and they have identified the Ligue One star as their primary target.

The Gunners’ Director of Football Raul Sanllehi has confirmed that the club will make a move in the next transfer window if the right player comes along:

“If there is a very good opportunity, we are definitely going to consider [it], we will see. Danny Welbeck’s injury alters, in a way, the views.”

It seems that Pepe may well be that “good opportunity.” The Times report that the Ivorian wide man is valued at £27m by Lille, but Arsenal could face competition for his signature.

Tottenham are also keen on the 23-year-old with the forward having made a very good start to the season in France.

Pepe has scored eight goals and contributed seven assists in just 13 league appearances so far this campaign. The midfielder also scored 14 in all competitions last season.
