Aubameyang reveals why he chose to join Arsenal early

Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed the reason behind why he chose to join the club in January this year rather than in the summer.

Aubameyang became Arsenal’s record signing when he joined from Borussia Dortmund in the winter transfer window for a fee of £55.5m.

He very quickly became a fan favourite, and looked just as deadly in front of goal as he did with Dortmund.

The Gabon international was prolific for the Bundesliga side, notching 98 goals in 144 appearances for the German outfit.

Many have tipped Aubameyang to be a Golden Boot contender this season, after he has continued his goalscoring form from Germany into England with 10 goals in just 14 games for the Gunners.

And the 29-year-old admits he chose to join the North London side early so that he could adapt to the Premier League sooner, something that he clearly managed to do very quickly.

“It was beneficial for me to arrive at Arsenal last January so I had six months to get used to the league, the country, the culture so I could be ready for my first full season,” he told ESPN.

“It was not easy at the beginning six months ago. It was such a big change. It was hard to find the rhythm, especially physically. But this time, I am ready. I am really feeling good.”
