Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Pablo Mari from Flamengo with the loan deal expected to be finalised imminently. The Spaniard is not very well known on these shores and fans would be forgiven for knowing very little about him.

To be fair, the 26-year-old has only really come to prominence since he moved to Brazil in July but he was certainly an integral part of the Copa Libertadores champions’ success.

His performances for Flamengo led to Gunners technical director Edu making a move for the centre-back.
