Arsenal will “consider” making a bid for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey in the summer, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The 26-year-old’s £45m release clause has attracted the interest of the Gunners with manager Mikel Arteta putting him “high on the list” of summer transfer targets.

The Spaniard is said to want another holding midfield player as part of his plans to rebuild the squad, and Thomas’s availability makes him a good option.

Atletico are reportedly bracing themselves for bids from a number of clubs for the Ghanaian international but it remains to be seen if the player would be keen on a move to the Emirates.

It is highly unlikely that Arsenal will be able to offer Thomas Champions League football next campaign, and with his current team Atletico having progressed to the quarter-final of the competition, he may see it as a step down.

Whether, though, there would be other factors in play that could persuade him to make the switch to England, it remains to be seen.
