Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres has confirmed he is spending his time during the lockdown learning English as well as a number of other languages.

The 23-year-old has been linked with Arsenal, Manchester City and Barcelona in recent months with teammate and former Gunners star Santi Cazorla having revealed that friends at the London club had enquired about the defender.

Torres says he trying to keep himself busy during the enforced break in football:

“In the morning I do the training regime and then I eat in line with the guidelines established by the club. In the afternoon, after lunch, I study a few languages because I was learning English and now is a good time to resume it.”

The Spanish international reportedly has a release clause between €50m (£44m) and €75m (£66m) which would be a significant purchase for the Gunners considering they are likely to have a limited transfer budget without Champions League football.

Arsenal have also been recently linked with a cheaper alternative in Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Nunez, while they are also believed to have a long-standing interest in RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano. The Gunners have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the Frenchman with his club confirming they may have to sell the centre-back for below his buyout clause this summer.
