26M Midfielder ‘Given The Green Light’ To Make Shock Return To Arsenal

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has “given the green light” for Lucas Torreira to cut his loan spell short and return to Arsenal in January, according to TMW.

The Uruguayan international has struggled for game time since making the temporary move to Spain at the start of the season. He has made just nine appearances and Simeone has reportedly already decided that he can be offloaded.

If Torreira does return to the Emirates, it will be up to manager Mikel Arteta to make a decision on what to do with the player. The 24-year-old signed for £26m from Sampdoria two and a half years ago but there is not thought to be any firm interest in the midfielder.

TMW suggest a move to Torino could be a possibility in order to work under former coach Marco Giampaolo but, at this stage, no teams are believed to be the favourite to take him for the rest of the campaign.

Whether the Gunners would consider keeping him, in order to strengthen their options in midfield, we shall have to wait and see.
