Arsenal are interested in signing Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, according to the Daily Star.
The Belgian has a £25m release clause which can be triggered by any club this summer, including the Gunners.
Alderweireld is said to be aware of Arsenal’s interest in him, and would not be opposed to the idea of moving across North London.
The 30-year-old is believed to be settled in the UK and is not looking to move and uproot his family.
The Gunners are certainly looking for a new centre-half and at £25m, Alderweireld would certainly be within their price range.
It would very surprising, though, if the Belgian opted to switch London clubs. Although the centre-back would probably not be under the same level of scrutiny as when Sol Campbell made the move in 2001, it would still be a very controversial transfer.
It’s probably best to take this rumour with a large pinch of salt until a more reputable source makes the same claim.
