Arsenal have rejected a bid from Wolves for fullback Ainsley Maitland-Niles, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.
The offer was reportedly below £20m and the Gunners are holding out for a higher price, in the knowledge that there are a number of other teams interested in the 22-year-old:
Wolves made formal offer (below £20m) for Ainsley Maitland-Niles yesterday. Rejected by Arsenal as they seek higher fee for versatile 22yo. Among other interested clubs, 2 in Germany understood to be preparing bids. Background for @TheAthleticUK #WWFC #AFC https://t.co/CxhbX2McWn

Supporters on Twitter are glad that Arsenal are taking a hardline stance on Maitland-Niles’ valuation and they are hoping the London club can bring in a decent amount for the player:

Arsenal not letting players go for cheap for a change. Good news

Relieved. Was worried we'd sell him for peanuts. He's easily worth 30m.

Considering the Gunners’ limited transfer budget, making sure they recoup a fair amount through player sales this summer is absolutely vital.
Especially considering head coach Mikel Arteta would not mind keeping Maitland-Niles, there is no need for the club to sell him on the cheap. With teams in Germany also believed to be keen, Arsenal may be hoping that a bidding war ensues and pushes the price up even further.
