Rennes winger Jeremy Doku has confirmed that he was contacted by the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool when he first emerged as a young talent in Belgium.
The forward broke into Anderlecht’s first team as a 16-year-old, and at the time, he held talks with the Gunners over a possible switch to England.
“A lot of teams came to see me. Everyone talks about Liverpool because it was the most concrete interest but there was also Arsenal and Chelsea.”
After deciding to stay in Belgium, Doku eventually made the switch to Rennes for an initial €26m (£22m) back in October, although things haven’t quite gone to plan in France so far.
The Belgian has been playing pretty regularly since his move to Ligue One but he has scored just once in 24 league appearances. Overall, though, his record of three goals and seven assists in all competitions isn’t bad, especially as he is still only 18 years of age, but it doesn’t seem like Arsenal will be looking to make a move for him again in the near future.
