Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng “wants to leave” the Bundesliga club during the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports.
Arsenal are believed to be keeping tabs on the 31-year-old, but they may face competition from AC Milan for his signature, with the Serie A club looking to add the German to their squad before the end of the month.
Bayern will reportedly sell Boateng if a club matches their €15m (£12.8m) valuation, but interim boss Hans-Dieter Flick does not have many fit centre-halves and may try to keep the defender.
One of the reasons why the Gunners have yet to make a formal approach for Boateng is that there are concerns about his fitness record.
However, with Calum Chambers having been ruled out for nine months with a knee injury, and Konstantinos Mavropanos expected to join Nurnberg on loan, Arsenal will be very keen for defensive reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
