Will Wenger Fill In The Empty Midfield Gaps Opened By Injuries?

Once again Arsenal’s squad is in danger of being seriously damaged by an endless streak of injuries. As if dealing with the fact that players are not at full speed given the large number of games, Wenger now has to handle replacing injured players that basically represent the core of the team. Losing Wilshere and Ramsey was already difficult so any new injury was definitely critical. Unfortunately, Coquelin is now stuck with a pair of damaged knee ligaments that will heal in 60 to 90 days. It`s a massive blow for the structure of the starting line-up which will not look the same with Arteta or Flamini. It`s not that either of the two lack the skill or the attitude, it`s rather the fact that they lack the stamina. The Spaniard who was out for a long time did not do great against WBA and Flamini is not the player to use if you want to win the Premier League title.

Out of the nine midfielders Wenger should be able to count on, 5 are out or have just recovered from spending time on the bench. That leaves Ozil, Cazorla, Flamini and Arteta. Out of these 4, only Ozil is in the kind of form needed to actually win a trophy. He will not able to take on any defensive tasks though, which also applies to Cazorla. With that in mind and with the fact that Wilshere, Ramsey and Oxlade-Chamberlain will probably be 100% recovered probably during February or March, Wenger might just consider a winter investment. According to the Daily Star, there would be some players who could come to Emirates to help the Gunners stay on top, especially in the Premier League where they have a big chance of winning.

The first player would be 24-year-old Christoph Kramer. Leverkusen’s man was on Wenger’s list last year as well but decided to extend his contract. A bid might be in place even if chances of bringing him to London in January are slim. The 2nd player is Lyon’s Maxime Gonalons who is under contract until 2018. He has been on Arsenal’s list for a while and a serious bid could look interesting for the French side. Third on the list is Southampton’s Victor Wanyama who has made 11 appearances this season and is already acquainted to the Premier League’s insane rhythm. Fourth on the list is Lars Bender who was rumored as being on of Wenger’s top target before picking up a hamstring injury. Last but not least, there’s William Carvalho, would be a great addition to the team. He has not extended his contract with Sporting and could be looking to leave soon.
