Will Welbeck’s Injury Force Wenger To Sign A New Striker?

Welbeck must be one of the most fragile players in the world. Looking at his endless list of reasons for being in the infirmary, you can tell how much hard work he put in just to make it on the pitch. You can also tell how much he loves the game given the fact that he came back over and over. Despite all the criticism, this guy has pushed through and tried to always play at 100%. Unfortunately, I’m starting to doubt the fact that it will ever be possible to see him express himself at full potential. It all started back in 2009 while playing for Manchester. In May, he damaged his knee after which 2 other relapses kept him on the bench. After that one of his hamstrings suffered deterioration with two more relapses to follow. Next there was the ankle problems and then back to the knee problems. Basically, since 2009, Welbeck was kept in recovery by one of these three injuries. The knee problem is the worst of all as it has re-emerged at least 15 times. Even with surgery, the England International does not seem fully recovered. Unfortunately, that will give Wenger big headaches as Welbeck looked ready to become the sought after replacement for Giroud everyone was waiting for. Fans were right though when saying that Welbeck is not going to become a 20+ goal striker, not because of his lack of talent but because of his lack of physical integrity.

Since Welbeck moved to Arsenal, he has spent 314 days in recovery. Seeing what the contact with Sagna looked like, it is safe to say he will end up spending a full year in recovery. That’s not good for a team that lacks firepower. Giroud, despite being the team’s top scorer next to Sanchez, has gone through almost half a year without scoring which is not good.

According to Metro, Wenger is already looking into signing another striker, a striker who could become the number one pick in the Frenchman’s starting eleven. His name is Vincent Janssen. In his first season for Alkmaar, the Dutchman managed to score 32 goals and provide 7 assists. He is just 21 and has already made 2 appearances for the Netherlands. He is affordable, and even though he just started with his new club in 2015, he would probably be more than happy to be given the opportunity to become Arsenal’s top striker. He is a player worth looking into and hopefully Wenger will move fast because the Gunners will not be able to win anything without a pure goal scorer such as Janssen.
