Will Arsenal’s New Boys Prove To Be Top PL Performers?

It was nice to see Arsenal’s most recent transfers at work against Nottingham Forest. Perez and Xhaka basically won the game for the Gunners who are slowly finding their form just as Wenger said at the beginning of the season which did not start well for the North Londoners. Once again the Frenchman proves that he should be listened to more often. His 20 year Arsenal career is not a fluke and he really knows football despite struggling to win big trophies over the past decade. Xhaka and Perez are a good example of his infinite football knowledge. Both players are starting to show their class. English football takes time to adapt from every point of view. Fortunately, last night’s performance showed that the two newcomers have what it takes to make it.

Xhaka, if he stays away from injury and continues down this path, will likely represent Arsenal’s future. Former Gunner Freddie Ljungberg compared the 23-year-old to Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit who was one of the best midfielders of his generation: “Xhaka, I’ve seen him quite a lot and he’s very good. He’s a hard-working midfielder with a great left foot, like we had with Petit” said Ljungberg as per the Daily Star.

Perez also showed he is capable of much more than anyone expected after seeing his first match. It seems that all those rumors and statements regarding the quality he has shown in training were not just gimmicks to boost his morale and impress fans. The 28-year-old Spaniard did something against Nottingham Forest we haven’t seen in a while from an Arsenal striker: he outran the defenders, he took the ball back from one of his opponents and scored in the same attacking sequence. If he keeps it up he could really turn out to be the missing piece to Wenger’s puzzle.

Once again Wenger deserves the credit for the transfers he made. Hopefully more people will see that there’s a reason behind everything he does and that even though he has an old school approach sometimes, he is still the best manager for Arsenal.
