Why Wenger Should Sign A Winger This Summer

Why Wenger Should Sign A Winger This Summer

Watching the Arsenal versus Norwich match, you could tell Arsenal keenly need to sign a truly world class striker. Welbeck’s entrance changed the game but let’s be honest, the Ghana born England international is not the type of striker that will win you the league.

Arsenal have been linked with the signing of Alvaro Morata but it appears the player wants to remain in Italy and Juventus are ready to pay Real Madrid extra money to remove the £24 million buy back clause Real Madrid inserted in the Spaniard’s contract when they were selling him in 2014.

If this rumour is true and Morata ends up staying at Juventus, Arsenal stand a great risk of not signing a striker in yet another transfer window. Let’s be honest, Real Madrid won’t be selling Benzema unless they are able to bring in another world class striker. And who is the world class striker available that they can sign? They are certainly not going to admit a mistake and bring back Higuain are they?

Higuain is another striker that will surely improve the current Arsenal team but Wenger is certainly not going to pay €100 million for Messi not to talk of Higuain. Tottenham won’t sell Kane to us plus why would he want to come and even if by a miracle, Spurs decided too, Wenger won’t pay the hefty price likely to be needed. So who else do Arsenal sign?

If you ask me, Arsenal has zero chance of signing a world class striker this summer. And rather than focus on signing a striker, Wenger should concentrate his energy on signing a goal scoring winger.

Someone like Henrikh Mkhitaryan who Arsenal have been linked with in the last few transfer windows or Marco Reus. By signing someone like Reus or Henrikh Mkhitaryan ( the German is my choice ) Arsenal will not have to rely on the likes of Welbeck and Giroud for goals.

Reus is certainly not a €100 million player. In fact according to reports, he has a £35 million release clause which to be fair is a good price considering how inflated the market is at the moment.

Reus has 19 goals 8 assists in 39 games while playing on the wing for Dortmund. None of Arsenal wingers can boast of this stat. Not even Alexis Sanchez. Another plus is that the German can play alone upfront as a false nine if required.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan too could be gotten if we really wanted him. We can convince him to join us ( like other clubs have done to us ) by offering him a good wage package. We won’t get any good player if we refuse ( not that we can’t ) pay the market rate. We could take advantage of Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s contract situation to sign him. The Premier league is an attractive league that the Armenian surely would like to play in.

Imagine an attacking line with Alexis Sanchez, Welbeck and Henrikh Mkhitaryan/Marco Reus in it? That will score tons of goals.
