Why Arsenal Will Not Sign Any Strikers This Summer

One very strange move took place recently as Marseille’s Andre-Pierre Gignac decided to sign a deal with UANL Tigres, a Mexican team set to win the Copa Libertadores this season. The 29 year old striker who ended his Ligue 1 season with 23 goals left as a free agent, which is quite unexpected regardless of how much the Mexican side is willing to pay him. Gignac was one of Wenger’s main targets during the past two years and it is a mystery why the French boss missed out on his fellow compatriot especially when in need of firepower. The fact that Gignac left as a free agent is even more confusing as Wenger is known for always looking for situations like these.

According to the Daily Mail, Gignac has passed the medical with the UANL Tigres where he was very well received. The fact that Wenger was not even a bit interested in Marseille’s now former striker can only mean one of two things. He either already secured a new striker or he is planning on not signing anyone new. This would mean Arsenal will have to play with Giroud, Welbeck or Sanogo up front which is in no way an improvement from last season.

Hopefully for Gooners, the first scenario is the one that is true. It is possible that Wenger already secured the likes of Jackson Martinez who just recently spoke about his appreciation of Henry and revealed his is flattered the former Arsenal star spoke highly of a possible move to the Emirates for the Colombian.
