Wenger Reacts To Mertesacker Comments

Arsene Wenger was not sure what to make of the comments made by Arsenal vice captain Per Mertesacker, after the defender suggested the team had not got off to a good start and needed to train harder in order to turn their fortunes around this season, as the Daily Mail. has reported

Mertesacker began his career at Hannover 96 as a youth player before signing a professional contract with the second senior side. Within one season, the defender was promoted to the senior first team and played 3 seasons at the club, playing a total of 74 league matches and scoring 7 goals. The 30-year old then made the move to Werder Bremen where his quality was recognised by teams around the world. Mertesacker represented Bremen for half a decade, playing 146 matches and scoring 12 goals. Then came the move to England where Arsenal signed the player in 2011, and Mertesacker has established his position in the starting eleven. His presence forced Thomas Vermaelen out of the side, and his partnership with Laurent Koscielny was stronger than ever. After an impressive season with Arsenal last season, Mertesacker played for the national team at the World Cup, where Germany ran out champions.

Wenger has always been protective of his players, but comments about anything including training are always scrutinised by the press and Wenger seemingly does not agree with his vice-captain as the boss clearly feels his squad train intensively.
