Wenger Preparing Late Swoop For Argentine Defender

It`s been a long summer especially for Arsenal fans who had little to cheer about when it comes to transfers. As mentioned in other articles, Wenger is a man of habit though and given his latest summer transfer patterns, there is still hope at least one more transfer will be completed by the end of August. Arsenal’s boss has always kept things to himself when it comes to transfers mostly because any rumor can increase a player’s market value. It might sound a bit farfetched but that’s how things work. If a piece of news is leaked, other clubs start expressing their interest which is not something you want as the club who needs that particular player especially when that club desperately needs reinforcements.

There have been a lot of players for whom Wenger expressed interest but only Xhaka has so far ended up at The Emirates. Hopefully his latest target will not be just another rumor on a very long list of footballers. According to Metro, the Gunners could be first in line to sign Villarreal’s Mateo Musacchio who has been playing for the Spanish side since 2010. The 25-year-old defender who also made a few appearances for his home country is under contract until 2018 but there was no news of him being interested in extending his current agreement with the La Liga side. While Villarreal did finish 4th last season and are involved in the Europa League, they cannot offer Musacchio the career or the salary options Arsenal are able to provide. While some offers were turned down due to the fact that there is little room in Arsenal’s lot for new additions that will actually get to play, the situation is different at this point in time. Currently, Wenger has only Koscielny to count on when it comes to important games.

Even he is somewhat in doubt as he is not fully recovered from injury. Mertesacker is out for a while just as Gabriel thus giving any new addition to the defense the chance to play for Arsenal in both the Premier League and the Champions League on a regular basis. The Gunners are expected to play around 60 games this season and having just Holding fully fit right now is not good news. This is common knowledge so Musacchio should be aware that if he comes to London, he will be thrown into battle right away. There’s also the fact that Chambers was placed on the transfer list with the England international expected to leave on loan by the end of August. It is a strange choice for Wenger but he probably knows best. With that in mind, there are few reasons why Villarreal’s 25-year-old center-back would say pass on this rare occasion.

The only problem with Musacchio is his physical integrity. Looking at his injury sheet, there is one major injury which is a bit recent to consider him fully recovered. Even if he is considered fit right now, he did spend a whole season in recovery due to a fracture which also caused him muscle problems. It would be a pity to spend money on someone who cannot cut it. The Premier League is a tough and demanding place to be and even though he is still young, he might struggle or even suffer another injury.
