Wenger Prepares £15m Bid For Schalke’s Benedikt Howedes

Wenger is looking to add some extra power to Arsenal’s defense by signing 26 year old Benedikt Howedes. The German International, who is very close to all of his compatriots currently playing under Wenger’s supervision, could be paired up with Mertesacker or Koscielny in order to help strengthen the line protecting Szczesny from receiving avoidable goals likes the ones against Stoke.

According to Metro, Howedes has been scouted by Wenger for a while now and will be eager to move to London and join Ozil, Podolski, Mertesacker and possibly Khedira. Even if rumors have it that Podolski will leave, it will still leave Ozil, Mertesacker and, a yet to be signed Khedira who could help recreate the middle axis that won Germany a World Cup. Even though Mertesacker was replaced by Hummels during the international competition, Arsenal would still get a massive confidence boost if they bring in Howedes next to their current captain.

The good news about Howedes is that he looks right up Arsenal’s alley. Valued at about £15m, he has the experience, the age and the price that make him a very interesting target. Even though he is Schalke’s captain, he will still be looking for a change. Regardless of the fact that he is part of one of the Bundesliga’s best teams, he is still keen on taking on new challenges. Arsenal would be a challenge right now if you consider the big number of injured players and the necessary improvisations which cost the Gunners a lot of points.
