Wenger Opens Defender Problem To Media Suggestions

Arsene Wenger has declared that the manager will be open to suggestions from the media over the issue of lack of quality defenders at Arsenal, after the Frenchman was again questioned about the lack of signings midway through the January transfer window, according to the Metro.

The Gunners have been under tremendous pressure due to defensive frailties in their game in recent seasons, and the problematic defensive midfield position has also raised questions about the club’s ambitions. After the departure of Alex Song to Barcelona, Arsenal were left depleted in the position. The constant injury troubles of Abou Diaby has also left supporters frustrated, but a new lease of life for the supporters has been Francis Coquelin, who was one of the best players on the pitch for their victory against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. The French player has been one of the academy products at the club, and has now shown in his performance that he is capable of handling the defensive midfielder position.

Arsenal have been linked with players like Winston Reid, who has been performing at the highest level for West Ham United. The Hammers have been one of the surprise packages of the season, and Reid has been one of their best players. Reid is out of contract at the end of the season, and the London rivals will be desperate to convince the English defender to sign a new contract but Arsenal are reportedly lining up a bid – we shall see.
