Wenger Looking To Bring In Tough Competition For Giroud

Wenger could sign a replacement for Sanogo at the end of the season. Even though the wage demands that come attached with Llorente’s transfer will probably need to be addressed by letting some players go, Arsenal are still keen on securing the Spaniard’s signature. Visibly unhappy with his status at Torino, the 29 year old is, according to Metro, on his way to London for negotiations. It appears that the only major request on the player’s behalf is to the have his financial expectations met. Llorente is requesting a £63,000-a-week salary which could be better spent on a player like Lyon’s Maxime Gonalons to be honest.

The Spaniard is no longer as efficient and as sharp as he was a few years back and has no real advantage over players like Podolski, Campbell or Sanogo who are all returning from loan this summer. All three can play on the same position as Llorente and even if they don’t have similar qualities and profiles, they can always be decent substitutions for Welbeck or Giroud.

One other thing that might not actually recommend Llorente for a place in Wenger’s lot is his injury history. Even though no important incidents were noticed, you can still see a pattern in the player’s sheet who has had back, hip and knee problems on several occasions. Bringing in a 29 year old who is out of form and has trouble with injuries does not sound very tempting and does not justify spending almost £2.5million in salary every season.
