Wenger Again Keen On Signing Lyon’s Maxime Gonalons

Arsenal may finally get a real chance at signing Lyon’s Maxime Gonalons. The versatile Frenchman who is currently under contract with his club until 2018, could be finally ready to leave the team he has been with for almost 6 years. The 25 year old who was on Wenger’s list for the past two years was faithful to Lyon and refused some good offers over the last seasons. According to Metro, Wenger wants to bring his fellow compatriot in as Arsenal are in desperate need of someone to offer defensive support across the middle of the pitch.

It is rumored that the Frenchman is available for around £14million which sounds about right. Add to that price the fact that Gonalons has never had to deal with major injuries and has been one of the most consistent players in League 1 and you get a great deal. The fact that Wenger personally requested this transfer could lean the balance in the Gunners’ favor. Having a manager such as Arsenal’s boss ask specifically for a player is a pretty big thing and could make Gonalons put in some serious thought as far as the move goes. Offers could also be arriving from Tottenham or Napoli who are also interested in signing the defensive midfielder. Arsenal looks like the right choice though especially due to the fact that they are more than likely to offer the 25 year old a starting role in the first eleven and that they are also willing to meet his financial expectations.
