van Persie Returns To The Emirates Stadium

Robin van Persie will be returning to the Emirates Stadium once again as Manchester United travel to London to face Arsenal in the weekend’s glamour tie in the Barclays Premier League, two years after the player left the club he represented for nearly a decade, as Metro report.

van Persie began his career with Dutch side Feyenoord, before making a switch to London in 2004 where Arsene Wenger planned to include him in his new strike force. It was a period when Thierry Henry’s career at the club was coming to a close, and van Persie was lined up as a replacement. The 30-year old did take up the responsibility and developed into a natural leader in the side. After 8 seasons without a trophy, van Persie left the club for rivals United, who won the Barclays Premier League in the Dutchman’s first season at the club. However, with Sir Alex Ferguson retirement, the club lost the plot under Moyes, who succumbed under pressure of the sack from the press and supporters. United currently stand in 7th place and are struggling to land a UEFA Champions League qualification spot under new manager Louis Van Gaal.

It will be interesting to see the reaction of the Arsenal fans as van Persie steps on the turf once again, at a time when both sides are struggling to catch the fast paced Chelsea will Gooners still harbour the same level of resentment towards their former Captain.
