These Arsenal Players Are Representing Their Country This Summer

Arsenal have 11 players performing in Euro 2016 and Copa America. If we eliminate Joel Campbell who failed to qualify with Costa Rica, 10 remain. Unfortunately, those 10 players will be the ones Wenger will be counting on next season when given the circumstances, the Frenchman’s medical staff will need to work wonders in terms of recovery. Alexis Sanchez has already cited fatigue and admitted he needs a rest. Then there’s Mesut Ozil who, despite being one of Germany’s key players against Ukraine, showed some signs of tiredness after a couple of sprints. This is just the first match so one can imagine what will happen if Germany makes it to the final of Euro 2016. It`s the same with Ramsey who, due to his role as a leader and due to the fact that a whole country is counting on him and Bale to write Wales history, will need to be extra careful to stay away from injury. Here is a closer look at each player and the impact the continental competitions could have on their performance for Arsenal:

Copa America Final – 27th of June

Alexis Sanchez (Chile) – The Chilean is very likely to play at least until the 22nd of June. Even though his country has yet to qualify, it looks like he will go through to the next stage as a runner-up in Group D which will be won by Argentina. If this happens, Mexico is the most probably adversary which gives Chile the upper hand. If Sanchez’ team goes through to the Semi-Finals they will have to face Colombia or Brazil. A result is tricky to predict. If all goes well, Chile could reach the final which is to be played on the 27th of June.

David Ospina (Colombia) – The keeper is through to the knock-out stages of Copa America where he will be facing Brazil. Regardless of his country’s results, he should be able to avoid fatigue. Actually, out of all players performing for their countries, he is the one benefiting the most off of the extra games given the few games played for Arsenal.

Joel Campbell (Costa Rica) – he left the Copa America after being eliminated by USA and Colombia

Euro 2016 Final – 10th of July

Laurent Koscielny\Olivier Giroud (France) – (Earliest expected return date: 4th of July)– The two started off well and won the opening game against Romania. Giroud scored and established himself as the number one pick for the starting eleven. Koscielny put in a solid performance as well so it is safe to say both players will be featured in all of France’s games. It`s difficult to predict what will happen but in case they win Group A, they will be facing the third place from Group C, D or E – this could mean Turkey, Poland, Italy, Sweden and more. It might be safe to say they will manage to go past that phase. If that happens Wenger will see the two joining Arsenal’s lot on the 1st of July at the earliest. The quarter finals which look like a sure thing for France are scheduled between the 30th of June and the 4th of July.

Granit Xhaka (Switzerland) – (Earliest expected return date: 4th of July) – The Swiss midfielder has been the stand-out player against Albania and is very likely to go through the next stage of Euro 2016. If that happens, his team could face Germany, Poland, Northern Ireland or the Ukraine. The World Cup winners can be taken out of this scenario considering the fact that if the Swiss finish 2nd in their group, they will face 2nd place from the group described above. Xhaka has a good chance of making it out of the knockout stages meaning he could be back at the same time as the Koscielny and Giroud.

Jack Wilshere (England) – (Earliest expected return date: 7th of July) – England is credited as being 4th in line to win the competition. If that turns out to be true, Wilshere should be unavailable for Arsenal until the 6th or 7th of July. It`s actually good for him as well to get some time on the pitch after being in recovery for the past 10 months. Currently, he is not a number 1 pick for Hodgson but he could be featured next to Rooney in the games to come and did come on as a sub late on against Russia.

Aaron Ramsey (Wales) – (Earliest expected return date: 4th of July) – He started off well and managed to help secure a win for his home country. Next to Bale, he will be the most used player in the Welsh lot. If they finish 2nd in Group B they could then face the runners up from group F which includes Austria, Hungary, Iceland and Portugal. Aside from Ronaldo’s team, the other three could be eliminated by Wales.

Mesut Ozil (Germany) – (Earliest expected return date: 7th of July) – Given the fact that he is part of the team that won the World Cup everyone expects Ozil to be back no earlier than the 10th of July which is the date of the final. If for some reason he will not reach that phase, the semi-finals are scheduled for the 7th of July and it is very probable to see the German side be around for that long. Ozil will be used every game given his excellent form. Hopefully he will stay away from injury.

Hector Bellerin (Spain) – (Earliest expected return date: 4th of July) – It is tricky to predict what will happen to Spain given the whole World Cup situation where they failed to meet everyone’s expectations by not qualifying from the group stages. If they finish first in their group though they will then face a team that finishes 3rd in one of three groups. It should be easy enough for them to stay in the competition until the quarter-finals. Bellerin will be a substitute for Juanfran so he shouldn’t return that fatigued despite a very long season.

Petr Cech (Czech Republic) – (Earliest expected return date: 25-27th of June) – Arsenal’s keeper is expected to return home the earliest as the Czech Republic will be considered lucky to get out of the group stages where they face Croatia who have already won against Turkey and also Spain.

Arsenal’s first training match will take place on the 28th of July Avaya Stadium US meaning that the Gunners will have to travel to the United States thus adding a couple of days on the road. If things go well for all the players in Wenger’s lot in terms of international duties, they should get around 2-3 weeks’ worth of rest which is nothing considering the length and the toughness of a Premier League season. Hopefully they will all stay away from injury and find the resources to recover properly even though the time is extremely short.
