Swansea City 0 – 4 Arsenal: Match Report

It was a very good victory for Arsenal as the Gunners managed to take down a sturdy wall built by Paul Clement’s boys. Luck was definitely on Wenger’s side with Iwobi’s two main goal attempts turning into own goals. That aside, the North Londoners did create a lot of chances and found the goal on several occasions as shown by the final score.

Wenger admitted to the BBC that the physical nature of the game made it hard for the Gunners to impose their playing style: “The first half was very intense physically, they gave a lot in the first half and then our pace took over. They had problems containing us.

“In the second half, you could see we could create chances. Our transition and accuracy of passing was very good. We were fortunate with the goals, but the chances were there.”

Luckily, the Frenchman knew what to say and do at half time so as to work around a solid Swansea team who in the end showed their limits as the size of the job to save the Swans must be starting to become pretty massive for new boss Paul Clement.

Giroud scored again of course but unfortunately had to be substituted due to ankle pain. What is truly amazing is that post-match statements show that he has been playing with this kind of pain for a while now. It cannot be stressed enough how dedicated this striker is to the team and how much he deserves to stay and play at the Emirates – hence his newly extended contract signed this past week a full 18 months before his current deal was set to end.

Ozil’s return was clearly a game-changer as the German international was involved in most of Arsenal’s attacks. His skill and his excellent ability to read the game seem to be crucial to the Gunners who always look better when he is on the field. With the win Arsenal move back into the top 4 in 3rd position.

Having secured Giroud, Coquelin and Koscielny to newly extended deals if Arsene Wenger can secure Ozil who has said he will sign another deal as long as the boss himself signs an extension then Arsenal will really only need to work to sign Alexis Sanchez. If Wenger gets another deal done with Sanchez then the Frenchman should be able to write his own contract with the club. Let’s hope Monsieur Wenger can get Sanchez signed as then the side will have all its key assets tied down – a situation which would make their fans a pretty content group knowing they will not lose any of their top stars as they did during the Emirates construction and financing period.
