Sporting Lower Financial Expectations For Carvalho

William Carvalho has been heavily linked to Arsenal during this summer. The 22 year old defensive midfielder, who was also targeted by Manchester United, is looking closer to the Emirates than ever. According to talkSPORT, the Portugal international is now available for £24.5million which is £10million less than what Sporting first asked for him. The reason for such a massive price cut is that the Portuguese side are in need of reinforcements. Wenger can offer those reinforcements by allowing Sanogo, Gnabry or Coquelin to move to Portugal as part of a more complex deal which would bring Carvalho to the Emirates.

Arsenal will be looking to close the deal as soon as possible. After missing out on Khedira, Carvalho has become Wenger’s main choice to cover the mid-section of the pitch. With Arteta out because of an injury he picked up during the first fixtures of the season, Wenger is obligated to sign a new midfielder.

Carvalho is one of the most highly appreciated defensive midfielders currently up for grabs. He could fill the spot which was obviously left uncovered even since Song left for Barcelona. He could become a team regular as soon as he moves from Sporting if you consider how important a player like him would have been against Everton. Despite being experienced and quite dedicated to Arsenal, Arteta and Flamini fail to stand on the same level with Toure, Matic or Gerrard.
