Arsene Wenger has already replaced Bacary Sagna with the £10 million capture of Newcastle United defender Mathieu Debuchy. According to Metro, he is now set to announce an understudy to Debuchy after agreeing a £7 million deal with Southampton for the transfer of Calum Chambers.

The 19-year-old is one of the most promising youngsters at the club after the departure of Luke Shaw and Wenger has moved swiftly for his services. The teenager has already captained at England U-19 level and sees his future as a central defender.

Arsenal already have right-back Carl Jenkinson on their books but a deal for Chambers would mean Jenkinson doesn’t feature in Wenger’s plans, at least for the moment. He could be loaned out for a season with West Ham United mooted as a possible destination along with Swansea City and Newcastle United amongst other sides.
