Should Arsenal Move For Huntelaar?

The Netherlands striker, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has played for some top European clubs including Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan, and currently plies his trade with Schalke in the Bundesliga. Ever since joining in 2010, the striker has scored 92 goals in all competitions for the club in just 142 appearances.

He was rumoured to be on the move to the English Premier League on transfer deadline day with Arsenal, who have lost Olivier Giroud for the rest of the year with an a broken ankle, credited with an interest in the 31-year-old. However, Wenger was alerted to the possibility of signing Danny Welbeck from Manchester United and chose to explore that path for £16 million.

Arsenal still lack in depth for out-and-out strikers and could be tempted to move for Huntelaar in January. The Dutchman just has a year remaining on his current contract and is reportedly willing to challenge himself in the Premier League.

He could be a game-changer for the Gunners off the bench and could even start to bring freshness in Wenger’s first eleven. However, Schalke are in no mood to sell the striker with club director Horst Heldt eager to tie him down to a new contract, according to the Express.

Schalke’s director said, “There was no summer approach from Arsenal or from any other club. Klaas-Jan is part of Schalke’s core. We can definitely see him signing a contract renewal here. He is a great player, an absolute modern professional. He’s always hungry for success and wants to achieve his goals.”

Do you think Wenger should target Huntelaar in January or will Welbeck prove to be enough upfront?
