Should Arsenal Look To Napoli Striker To Replace Or Play Alongside Welbeck?

Wenger could make a major move on Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain who was once on top of the Frenchman’s transfer list. Back in 2013 he was supposed to become a Gunner but chose Serie A knowing that there he would be the number one pick for the attack. According to Metro, despite becoming the team’s top scorer and also becoming a fan icon, Higuain misses the days when he fought for Champions League glory. Arsenal could offer him that chance as long as Napoli drop the price. The reason why the 27 year old was crossed off of Wenger’s list for a while was the asking price which got close to £35m. Higuain still has 3 years left of contract but a consistent increase in salary could tempt him to join Arsenal.

One way of looking at things is that Wenger could look to bring in a new striker this summer considering how things are going with Welbeck. The England international who started off pretty well, has dropped in form and managed to score the same numbers of goals Man United’s Chris Smalling scored up until now. With that low of a score rate, some changes are in place. Arsenal’s list includes players like Dybala, Cavani or Lacazette but none are sure things. Lacazette and Higuain should be on top of the list given their incredible form from this season. The Frenchman is less expensive, younger and apparently more efficient in front of goal but he is also followed by a teams like City or Chelsea who are probably going to outbid the Gunners. Higuain does not seem to be on anyone’s radar which will make him the safer transfer.

It will be very interesting to see if Wenger does indeed try to upgrade on the sometimes very impressive Welbeck with his excellent work-rate and definite potential or will he look to compliment Welbeck, Giroud and Sanchez with Higuain and really make a bold move. Or is Welbeck just a couple of steps up from Sanogo and should the Frenchman look to bring in more new blood. Personally I think Welbeck’s commitment to the cause and his timely goals are enough plus his undeniable promise that he still exudes that he does deserve another season in North London to work with Sanchez and Giroud and maybe A.N Other (read Higuain). On another side note, despite his obvious charm it looks like the Lukas Podolski looks to have played his last game as a Gunner and the same can also be said for Sanogo and Joel Campbell, although the Costa Rican deserved more chances. Anyway maybe there is room for an all out assault on the Premier league with the addition of another big player and proven goal-scorer but is that man Higuain. Well I think it hsa to be a case of in Wenger we trust as he has turned the ship right around and the doubters have been very quiet of late.
