Podolski To Support Danny Welbeck

Podolski To Support Danny Welbeck

Podolski, who was close to leaving the Emirates this season, is at peace with the fact that his spot in the starting line-up is no closer than these days. Even with Giroud out until next year, his chances of being part of the stating line-up appear very slim. According to the Independent, Podolski is one of Welbeck’s biggest fans. Even though the English international will probably be the one keeping Podolski out of the team, the German is more focused on the team rather than on himself.

Apparently, Podolski considers that Welbeck was the missing piece of the puzzle. Despite having Giroud around last season, the Gunners were unable to keep up with Chelsea, Liverpool and City. One of the main reasons for that was the lack of fire power. Podolski is the closest Arsenal get to having a number 9 other than Giroud. With Welbeck’s arrival, the German international will find it hard to find his spot on the team. Used mostly as a winger, he will have to battle it out with younger, more determined players such as Campbell, Sanchez, Walcott or even Sanogo.

It is very likely that Podolski will leave sometime soon. With the Gunners looking to sign some new players, it will be close to impossible for the World Cup winner to keep up. Even though he has made a decent amount of appearances up until now, it might be time for him to try a different challenge after failing to really make his mark on Premier League football.
