Mourinho Provoked Me, Claims Wenger

Arsene Wenger appeared to shove Mourinho in the chest after some heated words were exchanged between the pair following a strong tackle by Blues defender Gary Cahill on Alexis Sanchez in the recent London derby.

Although Wenger refused to speak about it initially, he has now apologised for the incident but claimed that he was provoked by Mourinho, according to the Guardian.

Wenger said, “They gave too much importance to this story. In hindsight I think I should not have reacted at all, it’s not a way to behave on a football field.”

“I always regret any signs of violence and I apologise, but that’s a part of games where everything is manic. And then we have quite a substantial past. Did Mourinho provoke me? That is how I felt. I did not enter Chelsea’s technical area.”

Mourinho did not want to get embroiled in another controversy with Wenger as the Portuguese manager calmly said, “I have no words to explain what everybody saw in those images.”
