Leicester 0 – 0 Arsenal: Gunners Dominate But Fail To Get First Win Of The Season

It was a tough match for Arsenal who failed to find the back of the net despite a total of 13 attempts on goal. Even so, if not for Koscielny’s return, the Gunners could have lost the game on the few chances Leicester had. One other thing worth mentioning is that without Ozil and Ramsey, Arsenal have some trouble creating opportunities to score. There was an instant change in the way the Londoners played as soon as the German playmaker was sent on the pitch. Jack Wilshere also had an impact on the way the whole team performed up front. Giroud came on as a sub and made his season debut but sadly could not break the deadlock.

Arsène Wenger looked pretty satisfied with the game especially after Leicester showed their first game of the season was a blip. The problem he did not mention though is that the Gunners are not able to play a whole season the way they played vs the Champions. Given the usual injuries and health problems, it`s unlikely to see someone like Wilshere playing 50 games until next June.

“I think overall it was a good performance, a good match between two good teams,” Wenger said.

“It was a game of top level intensity and I believe we responded well to last week’s disappointment.

“Leicester are a good team – they did not win the league and only lose three games last season for nothing.

“We had to fight until the end. We could have lost or won it in the last 20 minutes.

“We wanted to win the game and we finished with five attacking players on the pitch.

“I have to watch it on slow motion, Petr Cech told me at half-time that the first was not a penalty, the other on Musa, I would have to watch it again.”

Laurent Koscielny was the best player for Arsenal. Even if you could see he was gasping for air during the first half, he pushed through and showed how important he is for the team.

“Each player did the job well defensively,” acting Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny said.

“Leicester played very well in the counter-attack.

“We came back with a point.

“I think I toed the ball a little [when Danny Drinkwater fell in the box in the first half].

“I don’t think it was a penalty.”

Rob Holding put in a solid performance even though he was Wenger’s surprise pick for the game. Chambers is rumored to be disappointed after being left out but still, it looks like Wenger made the correct choice.

“We wanted a clean sheet after conceding four goals last week. It was vital. Hopefully next week we can build on this, score some goals and win a game.”
