Joel Campbell No Longer Part Of Wenger’s Plans

Wenger is considering finally letting Joel Campbell leave after several years in which the Frenchman insisted the youngster has a future at the Emirates. According to Squawka News, the 22 year old right winger who struggled a lot to get some time in Arsenal’s shirt has run out of chances to prove himself. Even though he had a brief opportunity to impress Wenger, he failed to show the form which made the French boss keep Campbell in London. The Costa Rican’s contract will expire in June and an extension does not seem to be part of his future. After spending time on loan with Lorient, Real Betis, Olympiacos and now Villarreal, he hoped for an offer from Arsenal but that did not come. It is hard to believe that he will be keen to say yes to a late proposal from the Gunners who don’t usually wait this long to extend deals for players who they want to keep.

It was an unfortunate situation for Campbell who finally had the chance to play for Arsenal when Sanchez was at the peak of his form. With Walcott also recovering from injury, the Costa Rican drew the short straw and had no actual opportunity to become a team regular. Even with his ability to play on both sides, he was still not impressive enough to have Wenger convinced he should stay with the club. Campbell is very likely to return to Olympiacos where he was on top of his game.
