Joel Campbell Hoping To Become Giroud’s Primary Competitor

Joel Campbell looks set to finally become a part of Arsenal’s squad after spending three seasons in France, Spain and Greece. The Costa Rican international who has made no appearances for the Gunners despite joining the Londoners back in 2011, impressed during the World Cup and may now present a viable alternative for Wenger who has Sanogo as his only alternative to replace Giroud when the situation demands it. According to the Daily Mail, the 22 year old striker hinted of his return to London after posting a message which inferred that he is ready to fight for a place in Wenger’s line-up.

The striker not only impressed in Brazil but also had a great season playing for Olympiacos where he scored 8 times in 32 appearances. He was a key player for the Greek side who won the domestic competition. Unfortunately signs coming from Arsenal are mixed as Campbell was not included in the 20 man roster set to perform against New York’s Red Bulls. To be fair, none of the players who were present in Brazil made it to the US.

The 22 year old who since making his international debut in 2011 has managed to score the same amount of goals for his national team and his club teams, seems in great shape and comes with great confidence after an impressive display of hard work and determination by Costa Rica’s national team. He is definitely a better option than Nicklas Bendtner who left the Emirates on the 1st of July.
