Is Wenger Really Not Interested In Signing A New Striker?

After Gignac made one of the most unexpected moves of the summer without Arsenal being linked at least once to a discussion with the Frenchman, it is now time for two other important names to reach certain agreements with Wenger not showing the least of interest in starting negotiations. According to the Daily Express, Carlos Tevez and Mattia Destro are off the transfer market with the Argentinian returning to his home country and Destro flying over to Monaco to sign a permanent deal with the Ligue 1 club.

Tevez who is only 31 decided to return to his former club this summer after the massive disappointment suffered against Barcelona during the Champions League Final. He was not contacted in any way by Wenger even though teams like Liverpool already knew he was on the move. A return to the Premier League where he spent close to a decade could have at least been considered by Arsenal.

Destro’s inevitable move to Monaco is even stranger as the Italian was once on Wenger’s transfer list. He looked like an excellent replacement for RVP and continued to look that way even during the next transfer window. Strangely enough no interest emerged after Destro decided he will not be staying with Milan and will be returning to Roma where his situation is not the best. Monaco swooped in and is apparently favorite to sign the 24 year old.

Wenger seems to be happy with Welbeck, Giroud and probably Sanogo. The other thing that could make Wenger say pass on these opportunities is the idea of using Walcott as a striker which is not farfetched given the player’s appetite for goal and his recent performances.
